These high-level talks are also running in parallel with ongoing negotiations between Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry and its American counterparts, the US Trade Representative and the Secretary of Commerce. While the United States was scheduled to implement a 25 percent import tariff on all Malaysian goods starting August 1, 2025, Malaysia is hopeful that the impending tariff decision will not adversely impact the nation’s economy, which relies on a healthy trade relationship.
