China Southern Launches Direct Route to Boost Đà Nẵng Tourism
China Southern Airlines has successfully launched a new direct air route connecting the Vietnamese city of Đà Nẵng with Shenzhen, China, with an initial schedule of six return flights planned for this month alone.
Airline representative Mairehaba Yisilayili made this important announcement at the official welcome ceremony for the inaugural flight on October 2, which arrived carrying 170 passengers from Shenzhen.
This new connection is viewed as a major strategic asset for the central Vietnamese city.
Trương Thị Hồng Hạnh, Director of the Đà Nẵng Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, expressed confidence that the new air route will significantly help boost tourism in the city, while simultaneously promoting increased trade and services between Đà Nẵng and the crucial economic hub of Shenzhen.
She underscored the strategic importance of the Chinese market, noting that China is currently Đà Nẵng’s second major tourism market, only surpassed by South Korea and followed closely by Taiwan (China).
The continued interest from the Chinese market was further demonstrated recently when the cruise ship Star Voyager brought more than 1,200 Chinese tourists to visit popular destinations within the central beach city just last month.
This new direct service by China Southern provides a more convenient and reliable travel option, ensuring a steady flow of visitors and capital into the region’s economy, aligning with Đà Nẵng’s broader goal of attracting high-value international tourism.
Đà Nẵng’s Expanding International Connectivity
The introduction of the new service by China Southern further enhances the already extensive international connectivity of Đà Nẵng International Airport, positioning the city as a regional travel hub.
The city’s airport boasts a highly active network, currently managing 29 direct air routes in total, 21 of which are dedicated international connections.
This robust network sees an average of 102 flights landing and taking off per day, highlighting its capacity and importance as a gateway to central Vietnam.
In the first seven months of 2025 alone, Đà Nẵng successfully hosted an impressive 10.7 million tourists, with international visitors accounting for a substantial 4.2 million of that figure, showcasing the city’s strong appeal on the global tourism map.
As the year draws to a close, the fourth quarter of 2025 is projected to maintain this high momentum, with more than 21,000 domestic and international flights expected to arrive at the city’s airport, carrying approximately 3.5 million passengers.
The addition of the Shenzhen route by China Southern Airlines strategically taps into the vast potential of southern China’s affluent traveler base, contributing directly to the projected increase in international arrivals and cementing Đà Nẵng’s reputation as a top-tier destination that is easily accessible through multiple, direct international routes.
Future Projections and Economic Impact
The new direct flight is anticipated to generate a significant economic impact, strengthening bilateral ties and capitalizing on the projected growth in tourism and trade.
The consistent operation of the six return flights scheduled by China Southern this month is expected to be a precursor to a more frequent service, reflecting the high demand for direct travel between the two dynamic economic zones.
By streamlining travel for both tourists and business professionals, the route eliminates the need for connecting flights, which saves considerable time and reduces logistical hurdles.
This improved efficiency is essential not only for leisure travel but also for facilitating trade and investment between the enterprises of Shenzhen and Đà Nẵng.
The continued, aggressive expansion of the international air route network, with services like this one provided by China Southern, demonstrates a clear governmental strategy to enhance the economic competitiveness of the city.
As tourism figures continue to climb year-over-year, the revenue generated from increased international visitors supports local businesses, creates jobs, and encourages further infrastructure investment, ensuring that Đà Nẵng maintains its robust growth trajectory as a premier destination in the Asia-Pacific region.
