Amazon Pledges Support to Transform Vietnam into an E-commerce Export Hub
The Vice President for International Public Policy and Government Affairs at Amazon, Susan Pointer, met with Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long in Hà Nội on December five, conveying Amazon’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s ambitious goal of becoming a regional hub for e-commerce exports across Southeast Asia.
The Deputy Prime Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam places immense strategic importance on its collaboration with leading global technology corporations like Amazon, viewing them as a crucial driving force essential for advancing the national digital transformation agenda and developing a robust, knowledge-based economy.
He strongly encouraged the massive corporation to continue its crucial partnership with Vietnam on its journey toward enhanced economic development, and specifically urged Amazon to expand its cooperation and engagement with Vietnamese technology enterprises.
This expansion, he suggested, should focus on enhancing production capabilities and integrating local product development within Amazon’s powerful global ecosystem operating within the country.
The Deputy Prime Minister underscored the Vietnamese Government’s proactive stance, affirming its readiness to consistently create favorable conditions to facilitate Amazon’s long-term, effective cooperation and strategic Investment within the country.
This commitment is aimed at substantially contributing to the growth and maturity of the local e-commerce market and strengthening the broader sci-tech ecosystem, reflecting a national priority to leverage global platforms for local Business growth.
Pointer acknowledged Vietnam’s remarkable socio-economic achievements throughout the year, particularly praising the progress made in administrative reform and the comprehensive digital transformation initiatives currently underway, further cementing the mutual understanding of the importance of this strategic Investment relationship.
Elevating ‘Made-in-Vietnam’ Brands through Global Selling Initiatives
Susan Pointer highlighted the practical efforts already undertaken by Amazon to actively support Vietnamese small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in achieving a global reach.
Over the preceding twelve months, the success of these initiatives was clearly demonstrated by the significant thirty-five per cent increase in the volume of products sold worldwide by Vietnamese Businesses utilizing the Amazon platform.
Currently, thousands of local enterprises are successfully leveraging the platform to expand their global presence and export goods to international markets, showcasing the effectiveness of digital channels in driving national Economy.
Pointer affirmed Amazon’s long-term commitment to cooperation with Vietnam and its dedicated mission to elevate the profile and market recognition of “Made-in-Vietnam” products on the world stage, a goal that aligns perfectly with Vietnam’s national branding efforts.
Highlighting a key strategic development, Pointer mentioned the recent signing of a pivotal cooperation agreement between Amazon Global Selling Vietnam and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency.
This agreement establishes the “V-Brands Go Global with Amazon” program, a comprehensive initiative specifically designed to provide extensive online export training and official certification for one thousand Vietnamese Businesses.
The ultimate goal is to provide these national brands with the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively strengthen their international market presence through the powerful digital conduit of Amazon’s e-commerce channels, ensuring sustainable Finance growth.
Furthermore, Amazon expressed a clear wish to increase the localization component within its electronic components supply chain, actively encouraging Vietnamese Businesses to engage more deeply and move up the value chain within the corporation’s massive global value chains.
Building Digital Expertise and Strategic Localisation for Economic Growth
The push for deeper localization and the development of high-quality digital human resources are critical elements that will sustain Vietnam’s long-term Green Transformation and digital Economy growth, as emphasized by the discussions between Amazon and the Deputy Prime Minister.
Amazon specifically proposed expanding cooperation in crucial areas of technical training for high-quality human resources, focusing on cutting-edge fields such as digital technology, big data analysis, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
These areas are considered fundamental pillars necessary for Vietnam’s sustainable development and continued competitiveness in the digital era.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Lê Thành Long, responded positively, noting that Vietnam is currently in the process of rapidly completing its comprehensive legal framework specifically addressing science and technology, AI, digital transformation, and high technology Investment.
He assured the delegation that the Government will continue to provide unwavering support to Businesses in enhancing their technological capacity, utilizing flexible and transparent regulatory mechanisms that actively promote innovation and collaborative partnerships.
This governmental support is specifically designed to help local companies strengthen their competitive position within the dynamic global digital Economy.
The strategic encouragement for Vietnamese companies to participate more deeply in Amazon’s global supply chain offers a tangible pathway for domestic manufacturers to gain crucial exposure to international best practices, quality standards, and advanced production methodologies.
This symbiotic relationship, combining Amazon’s global reach with Vietnam’s commitment to Investment in human capital and regulatory clarity, is expected to yield substantial benefits, driving both export volume and technological advancement throughout the national Economy.
Regional Market Impact: E-commerce Policy’s Dual-Layer Investment De-risking
The strategic partnership between the Government of Vietnam and Amazon, focusing on e-commerce export promotion and electronic component supply chain localization, represents a two-pronged approach to Investment de-risking that significantly impacts the regional Economy and Finance landscape.
The “V-Brands Go Global” program addresses “soft risk” for Vietnamese Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) by mitigating the high costs and failure rates typically associated with independent cross-border market entry.
By leveraging Amazon’s platform and logistics, SMEs avoid the need for massive upfront international sales Investment, converting the traditionally volatile export market into a scalable, digitally-enabled D2C (Direct-to-Consumer) Business model.
This lowers the operational cost basis and improves the margin profile for exported “Made-in-Vietnam” goods, injecting stronger Finance stability into the national export base, which is crucial as the overall B2C e-commerce market is forecast to grow by twenty-five point five percent in two thousand twenty-five.
Simultaneously, Amazon’s request to deepen electronic component localization addresses “hard risk” by signaling high-quality Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) intent that aligns perfectly with the government’s push for high-tech manufacturing capacity and Decree two hundred five, which aims for a fifty to sixty percent localization rate by two thousand thirty-five.
This pull for advanced manufacturing skills, coupled with the government’s commitment to an AI and digital legal framework, intensifies the existing war for high-tech talent, where roles in AI and data analysis already command a significant salary premium, ultimately accelerating the structural shift of Vietnam’s workforce toward a higher-value-added Economy relative to regional ASEAN peers.
