Panasonic Commits to Doubling MEGTRON Output for AI Infrastructure

Panasonic Industry Co., Ltd., a key subsidiary of the broader Panasonic Group, has officially unveiled an ambitious, strategic investment plan aiming to double its worldwide output of MEGTRON multi-layer circuit board materials within the next five years.

This significant capacity expansion is a direct response to the heavily anticipated and surging demand from the rapidly evolving sectors of AI servers and general Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure, which require increasingly high-performance components.

The company has announced that it will commit approximately JPY 17 billion (Japanese Yen) toward the development and construction of a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, which will be strategically located at its existing Ayutthaya plant in Thailand.

Construction is already underway at the site of Panasonic Manufacturing Ayutthaya Co., Ltd., with the goal of commencing commercial operations by November 2027.

Mass production from this new facility is then slated to follow by the close of the fiscal year 2028.

As the global adoption of generative AI technologies accelerates across industries, the demand for next-generation networking hardware—characterized by exceptionally high-speed and high-capacity—has intensified across the entire technology value chain.

This heightened demand has placed a specific spotlight on the MEGTRON series of laminates, which are widely recognized as the gold-standard circuit board materials within the industry.

MEGTRON’s Critical Role in High-Speed Data Systems

The MEGTRON series, manufactured by the Panasonic Group, is distinguished by its reputation for extremely low transmission loss, making the materials indispensable for maintaining stability and efficiency in the complex, data-intensive systems that power modern digital infrastructure.

These high-performance circuit board materials are absolutely critical to the reliable functioning of key hardware components such as advanced servers, network switches, and high-capacity routers, which form the backbone of the global internet and AI computation.

In these applications, any degradation in signal integrity can lead to system instability, reduced efficiency, and ultimately, failure to process the massive streams of data generated by AI models and high-frequency trading.

The commitment of JPY 17 billion toward this expansion is a concrete demonstration of Panasonic Industry’s long-term confidence in the sustained growth of the AI and ICT sectors, which rely on the high-quality substrates that the company manufactures.

The decision to locate the new facility in Thailand leverages the existing operational expertise and established supply chain of the Ayutthaya plant.

This ensures a smoother transition to mass production and helps the Panasonic Group maintain a strong manufacturing foothold in a strategically important region of Southeast Asia, allowing them to efficiently serve global customers who are currently investing heavily in high-performance computing infrastructure.

Strategic Innovation and Future-Proofing Production

Panasonic Industry is emphasizing that its continued investment in the flagship MEGTRON series is not merely a response to current demand but is an essential part of its commitment to ongoing innovation, designed to support future AI progress and address the evolving social needs for faster and more efficient data processing capabilities.

The company’s strategy looks beyond the immediate capacity increase, positioning the expansion as a fundamental element of its commitment to supporting the continuous advancement of AI technology.

The development of next-generation MEGTRON materials is crucial for accommodating the even higher frequencies and greater data densities expected in future ICT hardware, which will be necessary to run more complex and powerful AI applications.

By nearly doubling its production capacity, Panasonic Industry is future-proofing its manufacturing capabilities to meet what it anticipates will be a sustained, multi-year boom in server and network equipment demand.

The new facility will incorporate the latest in manufacturing technology to ensure both efficiency and quality control, maintaining the MEGTRON reputation as a gold-standard laminate.

This strategic investment reaffirms the Panasonic Group’s role as a vital supplier at the foundation of the digital economy, enabling technological progress by providing the core materials necessary for the next wave of digital transformation and computation.

The commercial operation goal of November 2027 is a clear timeline for delivering this essential capacity to the global market.
