Zetrix AI Bhd has launched a pioneering artificial intelligence model named NurAI, which is specifically trained to provide guidance and answers based on Syariah principles and core Islamic values. The model offers comprehensive coverage across a wide range of topics, from modern fields like law, healthcare, and finance, to traditional Islamic subjects such as history, philosophy, and Quranic studies. NurAI is positioned as a critical alternative to existing Western and Chinese AI models, which the company claims often lack alignment with Islamic values and the development priorities of the Global South. Beyond its application for individual consumers, the model is designed to lay the foundational groundwork for a broader digital Islamic economy, with potential infrastructure applications in halal trade, supply chain management, Islamic finance, and governance, thereby advancing AI sovereignty in emerging markets.
Phased Rollout from Consumer App to Institutional Integration
The language model, which offers a clear and conversational user experience in Malay, Indonesian, Arabic, and English, is set to be implemented in stages. The initial phase will focus on a freemium business-to-consumer app in Malaysia and Indonesia. This app will provide general Syariah guidance, with premium, paid options offering more specialized tools such as inheritance calculators and expert advice on medical bioethics. The second phase will be strategically focused on institutional integration. This will involve business-to-business and business-to-government models, enabling the implementation of NurAI into the daily operations of key organizations. These include Islamic financial institutions, fintech companies, halal certification bodies, and Syariah legal authorities, showcasing a comprehensive vision for embedding the technology into the operational fabric of the Islamic economy.
Ensuring Ethical Governance and Compliance
The development of NurAI was overseen by a formal Syariah supervisory board to ensure it is grounded in Islamic ethics and adheres strictly to Syariah principles. This rigorous oversight is crucial for providing a reliable and principled platform that can gain the trust of a diverse global Muslim audience. Zetrix has stated that its development team is actively collaborating with leading religious institutions both within Malaysia and internationally to establish a robust and comprehensive Syariah-compliant framework. The official launch of the language model was a significant event, officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025, underscoring the government’s support and the strategic importance of this initiative for the region’s technological and economic development.
