Sun PhuQuoc Airways Receives First Fuel-Efficient Aircraft
Sun PhuQuoc Airways, a new airline poised to enter Vietnam’s competitive aviation market, has officially received its first aircraft. The narrow-body Airbus A321NX, which was manufactured at an Airbus facility in Hamburg, Germany, landed at Phu Quoc International Airport on Sunday. The aircraft is a significant asset to the new airline, as it is powered by the highly efficient LEAP-1A engine. According to Airbus, this modern engine uses 20% less fuel, leading to substantial operational savings. Furthermore, it boasts impressive environmental benefits, including a 50% reduction in carbon emissions and a 75% reduction in noise compared to older generations of aircraft. The delivery of this state-of-the-art aircraft marks a key milestone for Sun PhuQuoc Airways as it prepares to commence commercial operations in the coming months.
Strategic Plans for Fleet Expansion and Market Entry
The airline, which is a subsidiary of the tourism giant Sun Group, is moving forward with ambitious plans for its market entry and long-term growth. Ticket sales are scheduled to begin in October, with the first commercial flights taking off in November. Sun PhuQuoc Airways has already secured a credit line from state-owned lender Vietcombank to support its strategic fleet expansion. The company intends to acquire a total of 10 new-generation Airbus A320/321 NEO aircraft as part of its initial development. Beyond this, the airline has an even more forward-looking goal: to grow its fleet to an impressive 31 aircraft by 2030. This aggressive expansion plan, backed by a parent company with extensive investments in Vietnam’s tourism hotspots, positions Sun PhuQuoc Airways as a formidable new player in the regional aviation landscape.
New Hub and Key Routes to Connect Vietnam’s Tourism Hotspots
With a capital of VND2.5 trillion (US$95 million), Sun PhuQuoc Airways is strategically positioned to serve key destinations across Vietnam. The airline will operate from a central hub located at Van Don International Airport in the China-bordering province of Quang Ninh. This strategic base will enable the carrier to effectively connect Vietnam’s most popular tourist destinations. The airline’s initial routes will link the picturesque Phu Quoc Island with major economic and tourism hubs. Travelers will soon be able to book flights to and from prominent cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), and Da Nang. This network of routes is designed to capitalize on the robust domestic travel market and leverage the extensive tourism infrastructure of its parent company, the Sun Group.
